in India, many B-schools and engineering college are closing. Read on to know
the reasons.
In the name of professional education, hundreds of
institutes came in the last decade. The charms of engineering and management
courses made thousands of students queuing up to join these courses. Moreover,
with every passing year, more number of seats were added to these professional
institutes.
A decade later, the picture is not glossy and shining.
According to reports, since 2011 more than 200 b-schools and about 50
engineering institutes have closed down. The colleges are located across the
length and breadth of the country. Many such professional institutes over the
last decade have lessened the number of seats. At one point of time, these
colleges offered dozens of courses but now have trimmed significantly. The
Engineering institutes in India have also limited the domains.
The report gave alarming numbers of MBA colleges shutting
down. In the past year, about 146 new management colleges in India were set up.
Presently 124 b-schools have closed. Till Sep 2012, 101B-schools have closed
down.
For MCA Courses, the takers are few. More than 80 colleges
have stopped teaching this program. The simple reason for students shifting
attention from MCA courses is availability of engineering seats. A B.Tech
degree is better any day than an MCA.
AICTE chairman, S S Mantha, commented on the dismal
performance of professional education. He said that the professional education
in India is experiencing a turning phase. Institutes set up in the remote areas
with poor quality of education are not getting any students. Students prefer
colleges featuring in the top categories list.
