The reputed distance-learning institute in India, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has started new programs in healthcare domain for its Nagpur center. The programs in healthcare includes maternal and child health specializations. Another interesting course on geriatric medicine is also launched in the Nagpur center. Certificate programs in Ayurvedic studies are also a part of the new curriculum in healthcare domain. There is also some courses related to home based care giving services.
These new programs in healthcare will begin from July 2012. There is about 30-40 seats for each of these courses. For the admissions, the criteria will be varying from program to program. An esteemed team of experts has designed these innovative courses. These courses will give varied opportunities to students in the health care sector. Besides IGNOU, the numerous medical Colleges in India offer similar courses on regular learning mode.
The Dean of AYUSH, the department of Ayurvedic learning, said that the introduction of these courses in the Nagpur center would further boost the learning of the same in this region. Students from nearby cities like Pune and Mumbai visit Nagpur’s IGNOU center to learn other courses. These courses will also draw students. According to reports, about 7000 students came to Nagpur to enroll in various courses of IGNOU. Nagpur city is the hub of higher education in central part of India and has numerous management, engineering and medical colleges.
IGNOU will also start new centers of learning in Kaushlyadevi Maheshwari Mahila Mahavidyalaya and Sadabai Raisoni Women's College. Both these centers are within the city. The third centre is expected to coming in Gondia. With these new centers, IGNOU is aiming to expand the education scope in the region. The IGNOU director of Nagpur center said that the institute is aiming to reach to grass root levels.
