JEE Records Highest Number of Registration for 2013

Joint Engineering Entrance (JEE) main exam has recorded highest ever registration for the competitive engineering exam conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Almost 14 lakh engineering aspirant have registered for JEE 2013 main exam. 

What makes the news more interesting is the fact that the hike in the number of aspirants is around 2.8 lakhs in comparison to a hike of just 20,000 to 30,000 candidates on yearly basis. JEE, formerly known as All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is all India level entrance exams for seeking admission in B.Tech, B.E. and architecture courses at Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), Delhi Technological University, National Institute of Technology (NITs), and other reputed participating institutes. From 2013, JEE is now being conducted in its new form, which includes (1) JEE-Main and (2) JEE-Advanced. JEE-Main is taken to get admissions into IIITs, NITs, and other engineering colleges, while JEE-Advanced is particularly to take admissions in IITs. Aspiring candidates must be 10+2 pass or must qualify equivalent examination. Students appearing in class XII exam are also eligible to take JEE Main. A candidate can take maximum three consecutive attempts to clear the exam.  

CBSE has announced the JEE offline Main Exam 2013, which is scheduled on 7th April 2013 and online exam between 8th April-25th April 2013. JEE Main is a 3 hours exam that includes objective type questions based on Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. For each wrong answer, one-fourth of the marks allotted to the question are deducted. The final all India merit list of JEE Main 2013 will give 40% weightage to 10+2 result and rest 60% to JEE Main score.


Most Awaited CAT 2012 Exam Results Declared Today!

Finally, the wait is over for CAT 2012 aspirants. The most awaited results of Common Admission Test (CAT) 2012 were declared on Wednesday, January 9, 2013. The entrance test was taken by around 1.90 lakh students out of 2.14 lakh registered students to seek admission to the 13 Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) and other premier B-Schools in India like MDI Gurgaon, FMS Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, S P Jain Mumbai, etc. CAT 2012 showed a hike in number of registration from 2.05 lakh in 2011 to 2.14 lakh students in 2012.  
      
CAT 2012 was conducted by IIM Kozhikode in 36 cities and included 61 centers from October 11 to November 6, 2012. The result announced on 9th January can be accessed by candidates on CAT official website www.catiim.in by using their registered email id and registration number. The CAT 2012 officials announced that the results would be accessible to candidates from 3 am onwards; however due to server problems and high traffic the candidates could check the results after 4.15 am.

CAT 2012 witnessed a hike in the number of female candidates to take admission in 13 IIMs- IIM Calcutta, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Shillong, IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak, IIM Ranchi, IIM Raipur, IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIM Kashipur, and IIM Udaipur. Apart from IIMs, CAT scores are accepted by other premier technical and B-Schools for admission in management courses. 

More applications were submitted from top 5 cities, which included Delhi (21224), Mumbai (16895), Hyderabad (16138), Pune (13368), and Bangalore (19553). As per survey, Maharashtra witnessed maximum number of registered candidates, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.  

Looking at the category-wise registration, CAT 2012 showed a healthy growth in all categories where the percentage increase for each section included SC-5%, OBC-17%, and ST-7.4%. CAT aspirants from engineering background dominated the total number of registration with 67.6%. Other candidates included either fresh or had work experience.
Now when the results are declared, the time has come to get calls from IIMs and other institutes that consider CAT scores for admission. Candidates are advised to keep a copy of CAT scores for future references and start your preparation for Group Discussion and Personal Interviews.

Want to Pursue PhD Program from an IIT….Go for NIT!!

Good news for students willing to pursue a PhD program from an IIT!  The board of directors of IIT has made the proposal to permit students of National Institute of Technology (NIT) to complete their final year of graduation from an IIT.

The aim is to attract more IIT graduates into PhD program to boost the number of doctoral fellows. Along with IIT students, the proposal aims to attract talented students from other premier engineering colleges in India. The proposal plans to be executed at two levels. Firstly, to ensure that IIT resources are utilized optimally, and secondly, the IITs attract more number of talented students to pursue PhD program. NIT being one of the top ranking engineering institutes in India is the foremost choice for the proposal. The decision will offer life time opportunity to NITians to get graduate degree from their respective institute and PhD degree from an IIT.

The selection of students to an IIT will be on the basis of their excellent performance in starting three years of B.Tech, interview and recommendations from NIT faculty. Once selected, the bright students will get an opportunity to complete their fourth year of engineering course and PhD program from an IIT. The duration of course offered in an IIT will be 5 years.

So, NIT is going to offer another gateway to the Indian Institute of Technology once the proposal is passed by the approving authorities. At present, Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is an all India competitive exam for engineering students willing to take admission in IITs and other reputed colleges including NIT. JEE is divided into two parts- (1) JEE MAIN and (2) JEE ADVANCED. The first exam, JEE Main is taken to get admission in various reputed participating engineering colleges in India, whereas JEE advanced is for taking admission in IITs only. Candidates are allowed to take maximum 3 consecutive attempts to appear for the exam.

 CAT is one of the most popular competitive examinations in India, which is mandatory for taking admission to the 13 IIMs and other B-Schools in the country.
The exam is an online entrance test, which was taken by around 2.10 lakh students across India. The number of candidates showed a hike from last year figure of 2.05 lakh candidates. CAT 2012 comprised of two sections- (1) Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, and (2) Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. Each section included 30 questions, while time allotted to each section was 1 hour and 10 minutes.  
                                             
The results can be checked online on CAT official website www.catIim.in. Shortlisted candidates will go through the second stage of getting admission to B-schools in India by taking Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI). The candidates will be finally selected by various colleges on the basis of CAT scores, WAT scores, GD, PI, academic records, and relevant work experience.
Cutoff marks for CAT 2012 will be declared once the results are out on 9th January 2013. Keeping the standard of IIMs high, cutoff marks are expected to go high as last year, where it ranged from 80 to 99 percentile for IIMs and other premier B-Schools in India.
