 The recently concluded CAT does not give time to relax to MBA aspirants for this year (2012), as more examinations for admissions to MBA colleges. Clearing the CAT means admissions to any of the Indian Institute of Management in India. There are 13 IIMs in the country, and IIM-A is one of the top best management colleges in India.

Other than IIMs, there are other prestigious B-schools in the country. These management institutes do not accept the CAT scores. Admissions to these colleges are based on other entrance examinations. Some of these exams are not as intellectually taxing as CAT, but speed is required to clear them. Hard work and practice of previous years are essential in getting good scores in these exams. The Narsi Monji Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai conducts NMAT. The last day of online testing window is December 19. The test has already started from October 11 2012. The advantage of appearing in NMAT is that there are three chances given to students to clear them.

The Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) entrance test is on November 11 2012. IRMA is known for agri-business management programs. It is one of the best colleges in rural management.

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) is on November 25 2012 at its centers, Delhi and Kolkata.

Symbiosis International University’s SNAP is on December 16.

Xavier Labour Research Institute conducts Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) and it is scheduled on January 6, 2013. XAT is said to be another tough exam, just like the CAT.

All India Council for Technical Education entrance test is the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT). For the academic year 2013-14, this online test is from February 21 to 25.

MBA Admissions in Kerala colleges will be based on CMAT score from coming academic year (2013). The B-schools in the state will admit students based on their Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) score. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) conducts this entrance examination in Kerala. AICTE approves management schools in the country and entry to these colleges will be on clearing the CMAT. Students with CMAT scores can enroll in management colleges approved by AICTE.

Until now, MBA colleges in Kerala were admitting students based on CAT scores or Management Aptitude Test scores. Students appeared for multiple management entrance exams to be enrolled in the B-schools of the state. With the introduction of CMAT and applicability of CMAT scores, MBA aspirants just need to sit in a single test. This will save money and time.

MBA education is serious business in India with more than 4,300 management schools listed in the country with about 3,700 institutes providing MBA programs. Kerala has around 60 business schools fulfilling more than 7,000 students MBA aspirations. The complete merit list of CMAT will be given to state governments. The scores will be utilized during admissions to AICTE-approved university departments or institutes.  

Students who are interested in management education can register online by logging on the AICTE web portal from 1 November 2012 to 2 January 2013. The CMAT is a computer-based test and duration is 3 hours. It is scheduled in February 2013. Sections include Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation, Language Comprehension and General Awareness.
